With 20 boxes of donations and a $15,000 check in tow, representatives from Vista, Calif.-based Watkins Manufacturing delivered help to a local family homeless center, North County Solutions for Change. The check was a grant from Watkins’ parent company, Masco Corporation. While employees of Watkins—the manufacturer of Hot Spring Spas and Caldera Spas—contributed bedding, personal hygiene products, clothing, food and cleaning and school supplies.
Solutions for Change, which was founded by Chris and Tammy Megison, houses homeless families in a series of apartments built from $6.5 million in donations. According to Sandra Shuda, vice president of human resources at Watkins, the pair developed a unique model, Solutions University, that lets families participate in a 1,000 day program with 500 days at their facility and 500 days off-site in order to help create a solution for homelessness.
Watkins has been an active supporter of Solutions for Change for several years.
